The Essential Classics: Cziffra – The 100th Anniversary

by György Cziffra (piano); Hungarian State Orchestra; Zoltán Rozsnyai (conductor)

György Cziffra is undoubtedly one of the most famous pianists of the 20th century, his first Hungarian sound recording (Grand galop chromatique) was made on the 21st of October, 1954, and the last one (piano transcription of the Tannhäuser opening) on the 29th of September, 1956. He left Hungary in the same year and within a few months, his name became known worldwide. His unique, almost magical piano technique is preserved on many Hungaroton recordings of which we collected the most enchanting ones for the 100th anniversary of the Liszt specialist musician.
